Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My Lite didn’t come on, is there something wrong?
A: Make sure you fully removed the paper tab. The tab prevents the battery from becoming fully discharged in shipping, and Lites won’t function with it in place.

Q: My Lite stayed lit for only a short time, is there a problem?

A: Your Lite requires bright sunlight in order to charge completely. If your Lite’s mounting location prevents it from getting good sunlight (or if it was a cloudy day) charging will be reduced, and the illumination time will be shorter as a result.

Q: My Lite doesn’t shine as long as it used to, should I replace the battery??

A: Maybe. Illumination time depends on many factors, not just the battery. For instance, fall and winter’s shorter days and cooler temperatures affect the amount of sunlight available, and reduce the performance of the Lite’s battery + solar cell. Unless your battery is a few seasons old, there’s probably no need to replace it.

Q: How long should my battery last?

A: Nickel-Cadmium batteries are generally good for about 1,000 charge-discharge cycles, or roughly three years of daily use. If your Lite is a few years old, you may want to consider replacing the battery. Be sure to dispose of the old one properly.

Q: Should I bring my Lite indoors for the winter?

A: No. Solar Lites perform best when allowed to repeatedly charge and discharge. Taking your Lite indoors will allow the battery to fully become discharged; leaving it in that state for an extended time can damage the battery, or make it difficult to recharge next season. If you must take it indoors, we suggest removing the battery.
